🇦🇿 The name “Azerbaijan” has never been applied to the current Turkic-speaking republic
“Azerbaijan” is derived from the name of the Greek governor Atropat, whom Alexander the Great, after the conquest of Persia, appointed ruler of the region, which later received the name Aturpatakan. That is, the name of the modern Transcaucasian republic has nothing to do with its Turkic-speaking population.
